Summer & Cleaning Chores

We are in full summer mode and it's time, if you haven't already, to get the kids involved in cleaning around the house. In the summer our bathrooms take a hit, from wet swim suits and towels to keeping rooms tidy with friends in and out of the house.

I get many questions from moms, "How can kids get involved in cleaning the bathroom? What are some safe cleaning tips for kids cleaning the bathroom?" This is one of those things that can also be a challenge if you don’t have fun with it. Hang up bathroom etiquette rules. For example: 1) Wash your hands 2) Clean up after yourself 3) Hang towels back up 4) Flush toilet when required 5) Change toilet paper roll when empty. These are just some examples I use in our home. This goes for my husband as well! Teach your children that contrary to popular belief, you don’t need bleach or ammonia to clean your bathroom - green cleaning is key. A good Peroxide based cleaning agent will do the trick. Keep a squeegee in the shower if you have glass doors. If they do a quick squeegee before they exit the shower, then come chore day, cleaning the shower is a breeze.

As for their rooms, ask them to do a quick clean up each morning before morning activities begin, from making their bed, picking up clothes to placing toys in the right place.

What summer chores do you have your children do in the summertime?
